Visited BF on the 8th Oct and strolled out across the wheat stubble to the flat muddy piece of ground where Trench 7 had been since 2018. The site cabin and various other parts of excavation detritus now stand alone awaiting the opening of Trench 8 later this month when they can be moved across into a new commanding (as if?) position. At present the plan is to investigate the area where the eastern road from Pevensey cuts through the double ditch enclosure. Trench 7 gave us some fantastic features including the timber lined well, plus an outstanding amount of artefacts, especially the fineware pottery but we had reached the stage where further investigation would not have increased our knowledge of this area. The excavation has therefore been backfilled and we look forward to the new challenges and discoveries that the new open area excavation will bring.
