Rain or shine!

Although we have had all four seasons in one week, a runaway tent and a few indoor rainy day sessions, the project has continued to make progress. The students have now been taught surveying, finds processing and all about site written records. The volunteers meanwhile have ploughed on in some very variable digging conditions to reveal more postholes, a possible pit and a metalled surface that probably served the industrial area of the late Roman occupation level we are currently excavating.

The number of tesserae pieces we have recovered continues to rise and is highly concentrated in the north eastern part of the trench. Differently coloured pieces are being found and we are excited to consider that there was possibly a decorative mosaic floor somewhere close by.

There is still plenty of work for all and much more to be uncovered- do come and join in!
